Abstract

The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of performance appraisal system on valorization of academic research in chartered universities in Kenya. We employed an explanatory research design and targeted all 5,138 lecturers. Using statistical formula, a sample size of 372 respondents was obtained. Quantitative data was obtained using self-administered questionnaires while an interview schedule was used to collect data from key informants. Data collected was analyzed with aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences and the findings presented in tables. It was established that performance appraisal system had a strong and positive correlation with valorization of academic research. The study concluded that performance appraisal system significantly influenced valorization of academic research. The study recommended the need establishment of standard university metrics for valorization so as to stimulate and enhance the valorization agenda.
